The Lady Spartans competed at the Michiana Timing Metro Health Scholarship Meet in Comstock Park for their final team meet on Tuesday. This invite-only meet is limited to athletes who achieved a stringent qualifying standard. There were 48 schools (including 20 Division 1 schools) represented at the meet, and your Spartan team and their 9 qualifiers finished an impressive 16th as a team.
The 3 Spartan Seniors competing, Jocelyn Garza, Trinity Skowronek, and Bella Vallone led the way. Garza was the recipient of one of the Scholarships awarded to student athletes, and had a great performance day as well. Garza set her PR in the 4x100M Relay split, picked up points for the team in the 4x200M relay, and outperformed her seed by 11 places in the 200M Dash, finishing 15th overall. Skowronek grabbed valuable team points in the 4x200M Relay and the 4x400M Relay, and finished an impressive 10th in the 300M Hurdles. Vallone warmed up for the State Finals meet in Long Jump by soaring almost 16 feet to grab an astounding 3rd place finish! She also added points in the 4x200 and 4x400M relays, and scored a 12th place finish in the 400M.
Emma Janesak continued to dominate her debut season by setting a PR in the 800M at 2:29! She also added points in the 1600M with another PR, and tacked on an impressive 4th place finish in the 4x400M relay.
Kennedi Wood Dazzled, grabbing 7th place in the 400M open and anchoring the 4th place 4x400M relay team. Mady Oudbier ran her best races of the season, crushing her season records in both the 1600M and 3200M.
Haley Pangborn smashed her PR in the 300M Hurdles, and scored points in the 4x200M relay.
Bella Elliott finished an impressive 14th in Pole Vault out of the 28 All-Stars attending. Elliott also set her PR for her 4x100M Relay split. Abby Zurek represented the Spartans throwing team in discus, where she has stepped up and performed at a high level all season.
Up next is the individual State Finals meet on June 4th, where Bella Vallone will represent the team in Long Jump.
