Sparta High School's Unified Flag Football team took Ford Field on Saturday, Nov. 24th around 8:30 am. After a 3 hour bus ride, on a charter bus donated by Dean Transportation, we walked through the Lions tunnel and into the bright lights of Ford Field. Our team captains, Sawyer Galloway (athlete) and Jordon Crowl (partner) witnessed the coin toss and we were slated to receive the ball on defense. We were able to hold them from scoring on their first drive and then made swift work of scoring first in a gorgeous run by Sawyer Galloway. Mason HS threw a pass during their second possession that Jordon Crowl got a piece of and knocked beautifully into the hands of Dakota Wilcox. In Unified Flag Football interceptions may not be returned, so we took the field on offense. Bryce TerBeek passed the ball to Sawyer Galloway who ran it in for a touchdown. Excited to be in the lead our defense faltered some, allowing Mason to score. The rest of the game was back and forth with strong offense on both sides scoring on nearly each possession. We proudly moved the ball both by land and air, via multiple quarterbacks including Jordon Crowl, Bryce TerBeek, and Sawyer Galloway. In the end our strong start saved us with a rock solid win 42 to 30 . It was an emotional experience from sitting in the Lions lockerroom to hearing the national anthem standing on THAT endzone. These kids rocked Detroit bringing home a tough win against a well -partnered Lansing area team.
