Sparta Girls Golf Caps Historic Season with Strong Showing at State Finals The Sparta Girls Golf Team made history this past weekend, competing in the MHSAA State Finals at Bedford Valley for the first time in program history. The Spartans finished 15th overall in Division 2, marking an incredible milestone for a young team that continues to make strides on the state stage. “I’m really proud of the effort the girls gave this weekend,” said Head Coach Tom Koert. “Bedford is not an easy course — and that’s exactly why it’s chosen as a Finals site. Our girls battled through every challenge and never gave up for one minute. That’s something we can all be proud of.” The Spartans got off to a great start before experience and tough course conditions began to show. Still, every player fought through the adversity and gained valuable experience that will help build the future of Sparta Golf. Senior Emma Momber led the way for the Spartans with rounds of 91 and 83, finishing 24th overall among the state’s best golfers. Her resilience stood out — after recording a 10 on the challenging 6th hole Friday, she came back strong with a par on the same hole Saturday. Coach Koert shared that several opposing coaches commented on being surprised to see Sparta in the Finals — a testament to the team’s breakthrough season. “It shows how far we’ve come and what we’re capable of. Just one or two strokes per hour per player could’ve changed everything. This experience gives us a great look at what we can still work toward,” With potential realignment to Division 3 next year, the Spartans are already focused on building depth and continuing their upward trajectory. Individual Scores: Emma Momber – 91 / 83 (24th overall) Ashley Skipper – 99 / 95 Claire Kober – 102 / 104 Gracie Kent – 109 / 103 Shallan Momber – 101 “Making it to the State Finals is something special,” said Coach Koert. “This is a big step for our program — and I couldn’t be prouder of this group of girls.”
