The Sparta Softball team is headed to Regionals after an incredible day that ended with a District Championship and a new school record for wins in a season! In the District Semifinals, the Spartans defeated Cedar Springs 4-1 in a thrilling 9-inning battle. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the 7th, Alexa VanVliet crushed a game-tying home run to force extra innings. Then in the 9th inning, she delivered once again with a three-run homer, accounting for all four Sparta runs and securing the victory. Taliya Dauser was dominant in the circle, striking out 16 batters and keeping the Spartans within striking distance all game long. Sparta carried that momentum into the District Championship against Fremont, earning an 11-3 victory. Dauser once again recorded 16 strikeouts, while VanVliet added another three-run home run to help power the Spartan offense. With the win over Fremont, Sparta improved to 23 victories on the season, setting a new school record for wins in a single season.
